Common Name

Penny bun, porcino (Italian), Cèpe (French), Steinpilz (German)

Cap

Convex, expanding, reddish brown to brown, often with a whitish bloom at the margin when young which disappears to leave a thin white band, surface smooth or with a waxy texture, to about 20 cm across

Pores

Small, whitish, becoming yellow, then yellow green with age

Stem

Club shaped, whitish to pale brown, decorated with a raised network which is usually restricted to the apex

Flesh

Firm, white, sometimes with a small bright yellow zone in the base
